Al-Jabr V1.03
The Numerically Oriented Mathematics Program.

Dedicated to everyone who ever suffered a fracture or underwent a
bonesetting all because of mathematics-- and loved it! -Uche
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Al-Jabr is a multi-purpose mathematical program. It can be used as a
sophisticated calculator with multiple-graphing capabilities. I wrote it
with college students in mind and others who would appreciate some
assistance on their mathematical problems but can hardly afford the more
sophisticated symbolic packages.
Al-Jabr requires an 80286 microprocessor, EGA or better, 128K minimum
memory and an optional 80x87 math co-processor. There are four main
executable files: aljabre.exe and aljabrv.exe are for EGA and VGA
respectively without math co-processors. 87jabre.exe and 87jabrv.exe are
for EGA and VGA respectively with math-coprocessors. I do not have a math
co-processor myself so I cannot guarantee that 87jabre.exe and 87jabrv.exe
will work completely except that I compiled them normally but with the math
co-processor option turned on. I would appreciate any feedback as to how
well (and how fast) they work on machines with co-processors. They should
naturally be much faster than the regular versions.
The file aljabr.cde must be in the same path as the executables for
them to work. Before you read the manual I advise you to print out and
follow the tutorial in tutorial.doc. This tutorial contains many sample
uses of Al-Jabr which are hard to explain without some interactive user
instruction. Just read the first paragraph of tutorial.doc and it will tell
you what to do. The tutorial should make the manual much easier to follow.
The file Aljabr.doc is the manual and contains all the necessary
documentation for running Al-Jabr. Refer.doc is a reference text that you
can print out for quick reference to the precedence of operators in Al-Jabr
and the meaning of the error messages. The PCX format graphics files
stat.pcx, fourier.pcx and suite.pcx are a pair of sample graphs that have
beed captured from Al-Jabr screens with the capture command. I labelled
them using Zsoft's PC Paintbrush (R). See the manual for more information
on Al-Jabr's useful ability to capture graphs to PCX format files for
importing into documents, modification or simple presentation. infile.dat
is a sample statistical data file you will use in the tutorial.
Al-Jabr is a shareware program. That means that if after a reasonable
trial period you find Al-Jabr useful and wish to continue using it you
should register this product with me to support my effort and enable me to
keep working on it. The registration fee is $25.00. Please send the
registration to me at the following address:

In return I will send you the latest version of Al-Jabr and I will throw in
a program, Gauss.exe, soon to be released as seperate shareware, for
solving systems of equations. I have innumerable enhancements in line for
Al-Jabr but I can only implement them if it gets enough support.
I am very anxious to hear about any bugs you may have encountered. If
you come across any bugs, please let me know by mail at the above address
or you can reach me on Prodigy, My Prodigy ID number is KTXR86A, or you can
send me (Uche G. Ogbuji) E-mail on Ed Gelb's Database BBS [300,1200 baud,
8/1/N] (201)-694-7425.
I also welcome any suggestions and comments, and even politely worded
complaints. Thank you for trying out Al-Jabr. Remember. Shareware is a way
for authors to provide you with inexpensive, quality products. Support
shareware. If you like it, and use it, register it.
